Handmade dried apricots

Porreras is quite famous for its dried apricots, which has been a source of wealth for the village for several generations.  It's crop is exported all over the world.  The cultivation of apricots is actually widespread in the Balearic Islands with its wonderful leafy branches providing shade as well as a delicious, makes it a highly prized fruit by the islanders.  

Apricots, a fruit which has a texture that sits somewhere between a peach and a plum with a smooth skin that ripens to golden tones under the Balearic sunshine, acquiring a wonderfulripens from as early as late May (in its earliest varieties) and lingers on throughout the summer. The Balearic sunshine then helps turn them into dried apricots in June and July, so that they can be enjoyed all year round.  Another popular use of apricots is to make jam for use in traditional pastries, and other dishes, such as ice cream and sauces.

Porreras is ñocated in Mallorca’s Pla district, it boasts the perfect conditions for the cultivation of apricot trees. You can easily distinquish apricots from Porreras  from their competitors. They are dried out in an artisanal manner and thanks to a new-found market, have become a treat consumers crave.
Can Parrí, one of the firms pioneering this new stage of commercialisation on the island, along with the traditional dried apricot production is bringing out new products, such as dried apricots in chocolate, (delicious) and planning new ones, such as apricot turrón and apricot slices for salads. (Can't wait for this one, love salads)
