Who else wants to make €100.000 per year – working from home?

The Association of SOS Animal was created in 1995 by foreign and Mallorcan people concerned with the welfare of all animals on the island.  For over nine years a co-operations agreement has existed between the association and the municipality of Calvia.  This co-operation deals with the housing and care of the dogs and cats sent to the Municipal animal pound of Calvia.  These animals are then transferred to the care of the SOS Organisation.  Since this system has been in operation no animals have been destroyed that had any chance of life.  All the roung, ill and animals needing attention are cared for by our helpers.  This agreement has already saved the lives of innumerable animals. In 2004 the Foundation SOS Animal was born

One of the most important roles of the animal protection work undertaken by SOS is to prevent, by the castration of the stray animals, the constant tide of puppies and kittens.  Since the year 2000 we have accomplished the most extensive cat castration programme on the Balearics.  Annually 600 cats in the area of the munipality of Calvia are caught, castrated and released.  Tame cats are homed only when neutered and coupons are given for kittens in order to be spayed or castrated when they are old enought at one of the participating vets in the campaign.

Dr. Karina Pirron, who has a veterinary practice in Palmanova works tirelessly to help the animals at the SOS facility.  Carrying out the necessary surgeries as well as taking care of the sick animals who come into the care of the SOS.

If you feel that you would like to help in any way at all there are several possibilities open to you.  You can either become a member with an annual membership charge of 50 Euros for adults and 30 Euros for children.  You could participate as a foster home, help with transportation or even help in the SOS facility by taking care of the animals or walking them.  Donations to SOS are also very gratefully received.  If inclined there are always ways to help animals in need.

In November 2006, at the initiative of Glenda Dean and the Robert Winsor Association a golf tournament was organized for SOS Animal at Royal Bendinat Golf Club to raise funds for the construction of new outdoor enclosuresfor our dogs. The event was a great success and the sum of € 78,000 was raised!
Unfortunately, the Building Authority of Calvia did not authorize the enclosures on the land of which the municipality of Calvià had given to SOS Animal for this purpose.

The delay however led the organizers of the golf tournament to give part of the money to other animal welfare organizations on the island; nevertheless a part did cover a major part of the cost of the fencing of the area. The entire project cost 55,981.38 € incl. IVA, of which € 51,000 was paid from funds from the golf tournament and the rest was paid from the budget of maintenance of the dogs.
The area fencing represents a significant improvement for the welfare of the animals and reduce the risk of escape.

We are enormously grateful to Glenda Dean, Robert Winsor, the Royal Bendinat Golf Club, Vicky and Harry Metcalfe and all those whose generous donations have made a better life possible for our dogs!

We hope that we will soon be able, by other events such as our "Open Day", to offset our budget and tackle the next phase of our project.

Thank you very much!
