Mallorca, is reported to be one of Europe's greatest  sport climbing destinations. Its magnificent mountains and coastal scenery offers majestic locations for the many fine crags. This book written by Chris Craggs has all the information you need to make your trip to Mallorca for rock climbing an outstanding trip.

The routes available here offer all kinds of difficulty, from easy rock climbing to really hard routes making it a good choice for both families and other climbers.   Of course, a well-established tourist trade and friendly locals, add to its appeal and make it a perfect destination for the travelling climber.

It is quite possibvle that on a first visit many climbers will be stunned by the sheer quantity of rock on view, however, please don´t be fooled, there is still much to be developed here on Mallorca especially in as far as some of the less accessible rock. Having said that there is still plenty to go at if you are prepared to take your time.  The small roads on the East of the island will lead you to one of the most beautiful rock climbing spots in Europe. As well as the mountains with their fair share of fine crags there are many other cliffs located along the rocky east coast and on the dramatic headland of Formentor.

Perhaps the best time to come to Mallorca when contemplating climbing is in the spring when the temperature will be pleasant and it is likely to be dry. During the winter, although it is usually dry it does tend to be rather cold - having said that as someone who has lived on the island and is really, truly acclimatised it may not be so cold if you are used to really cold winters experienced elswhere. Many climbers have actually had excellent trips over the Christmas and New Year period, much depending, of course on the particular winter and how mild it is. Autumn is probably one to avoid as it is the stormy season and usually has a fair amount of rainfall during this time making rock climbing far too dangerous. Summer is really much too hot for this type of sport, apart from that the island is crowded with tourists and it is much more expensive to travel to Mallorca at this time.
Springtime here on the island is beautiful, with green grass everywhere, flowers blossoming again, and a much more ameniable climate for climbing.

Probably the greatest attaction to coming here on a climbing trip is the islands compact size and its good road network.  This makes access to the crags easy no matter where you are staying.

Imagine spending the morning relaxing on a beautiful beach or exploring one of Mallorca's wonderful mountain villages, followed in the afternoon by as much 'world class' climbing as you can manage, finishing off in the evening in one of the many beach or port side restaurants enjoying a well deserved meal out on the terrace watching the sun go down gently on the horizon.
