Deep Water Soloing.  Before I started gathering information for AdsMallorca I have to admit, and I apologise, to the sports enthusiasts of DWS, but I had no idea what Deep Water Soloing was, or how perfect parts of Mallorca's coastline are for this particular sport.  If you want to know more the book on the left tells you more!

The combination of Mallorca's long stretches of accessible cliffs, the wonderful warm Mediterranean climate has in fact established this island as one of the finest deep water soloing destinations in the world.  Of course added to that there is also the fact that, because this is not a sport that depends on a certain temperature and is in fact better when it is cooler, therefore at either the end or beginning of the seasons, flights on the whole are cheaper and accommodation is easier to come by. Therefore we have the perfect location, climate and coastal cliffs for all DWS enthusiasts worldwide to enjoy this sport of this wonderful island..

As well as some of the better known locations such as Porto Cristo (Cova del Diablo), Cala Marcel and Cala Barques there is now a new attraction, the extensive cliffs at Cala Serena.  This is now the largest developed crag on the island.  If you go further north there are a series of smaller places like Cala Sa Nau, Porto Colom and Cala Mitjana having a mixture of medium to hard routes with some easier routes at Porto Colom for those just beginning this fascinating sport.  For those with a view to a challenge and the skills to climb this ascent then of course there is the development at Santanyi and the arch at Es Pontas.  For those with lesser abilities there are plenty of other climbs in the area with the fine crags of Cala Santanyi and Cala Lombards.   Routes are now being established on other coasts around the island with new routes near Port de Soller and Porto Pi being documented.

This is an extremely challenging sport and not for the faint hearted, but one that appears to be on the increase and is wonderful to see that Mallorca is the place to come for DWS enthusiasts.

Here is a video so that you can see the sort of DWS available on Mallorca.
