Palma Nova was one of the first purpose-built tourist destinations on the island, catering for all tastes. The town is frequented by a range of socio-economic groups due to the proximity with both the city of Palma and the resort of Magaluf. With the advent of low cost airlines, Palma Nova has grown to become a major holiday destination for Europeans.Palma Nova is one of the original mass tourism resorts in Mallorca built in the 1960's. The resort surrounds three beaches and at the Southern end Palma Nova borders with the neighboring resort of Magaluf. These resorts have grown over time so that it is no longer possible to tell exactly where one resort ends and the other begins. Today the resort is popular among young party people, as well as nostalgic adults who came here in their youth, and families that enjoy the comforts of a large and well established resort. Beaches of Palma Nova Palma Nova has three large beaches - Playa de Son Maties, Playa de Palma Nova and Playa des Carregador. Playa des Carregador is the quieter of the three beaches and lies in the Northern end of the resort. Playa de Palma Nova is in the middle and Son Maties at the Southern end next to Magaluf.
